From Adobo To Burrito

I remember seeing in a friend's Facebook post a couple of weeks back about this place where they serve over 15 different types of Adobo. Being an Adobo addict myself, i quickly asked where this place is. Sadly, it's quite far from where i live or work so it'll take some planning to go. Fast forwarding to last Monday, me and 2 of my officemates decided to plan that Adobo trip and since Tues was coding day for me, Wednesday was the decided day.

Adobo day came but apparently, fate decided to feed us something else. While on our way, we found out that the place was closing down. True enough, the place had already closed -for good i think-. So what's plan B? Backtracked on the other restos we passed by but nothing seemed appealing. Cafe Juanita came up and was almost decided when someone mentioned Ristras. Faces lit up and next thing i know, i was driving towards Wilson st in Greenhills.

Ristras is a small Mexican Grill which serves Burritos as their specialty. I gave both my companions a heads up about how BIG the Burritos are since i have been here before. Initially thinking of sharing one, they both ended up ordering one each.

The way you order here is somewhat similar to how you order in a canteen:
  • Choose your tortilla -Regular or Wheat. About 12-15 inches in diameter. Can also opt for none and just have it served the rest of the ingredients in a bowl. I think Naked Burritos is the term they use.
  • Choose your rice -Cilantro-Lime or Brown Chorizo Rice
  • Choose either Beans or Veggies
  • Choose your preferred meat -Chicken, Steak, Ground Pork or Shredded Spicy Beef (Barbacoa).
After choosing, they put in themselves the rest of the ingredients -Corn, Salsa, Cheese, Lettuce, Guacamole and Sour Cream.
After assembling and wrapping, the server will ask you whether you want it Wet or not. Wet meaning they'll pour melted cheese all over the Burrito and bake it for a couple of minutes.

Aside from Burritos and Chimichangas, they also have other items like Enchiladas, Flajitas, Tacos, Nachos, Quesadillas, Salads and Albondigas (meatball soup). You can also order extra Salsa or Guacamole.

For drinks, they have Lemonade and canned sodas and bottled water. They also serve Margaritas and assorted Mexican Beers.

Nikki got a Steak Burrito:

Djong and I ordered a Chimichanga. Same as a Burrito only, after wrapping they paint it with Sour Cream and deep fry it. For filling, she had steak and i got the Barbacoa or shredded spicy beef.

All of our orders were served with Tomato Salsa, Guacamole and Sour Cream on the side.

The beef was very tasty although not spicy enough for me. It did match up well with the sweetness of the Guacamole and the Sour Cream sidings. The cheese was overpowered by the other flavors and can only taste hints of it and the brown rice hardly had any chorizo flavor in it. According to Djong tho, she could taste the Lime well enough from her Cilantro-Lime rice.

Both of them only managed to finish half and had the rest wrapped. I got to about 1/4 then decided to just have it wrapped also and eat it for merienda.

Overall, i can say i was very satisfied with what i had and wouldn't mind going back to try out the other items on their menu especially their Quesadillas. The size reminds of that big, big Calzone over at Don Henricos although not as thick and fat.

Both my companions gave this place a thumbs up as well.

The price ranges from P280 to P340 per order. An additional P90 to have a wet version (smothered in cheese). It's a bit pricey at first glance but then you'd realize that the size is enough to be shared with a friend (together with the price, hence not so pricey after all. hehehe.). Plus, the flavor itself makes the price worth it.

Ristras Mexican Grill is located along J. Abad Santos St. (wilson st. side)., San Juan.
From Wilson street in Greenhills, you turn right at Alex the III (J.Abad Santos).
It's about a block away after taking that right turn.

  2. wow. thanks so much! really appreciate this. oh and there seems to be a misunderstanding. i wasn't talking about Adobo Putoshop on last post regarding the closed down Adobo shop. it was a different resto. didn't feel the need to mention the name since it has closed down so i decided to leave it anonymous.

anyway, thanks for dropping by and leaving a word. will definitely put into consideration all the things you mentioned in your review. =)

    cheers!

  4. Hey Tito Mark! Paolo here :)

Wow. I just couldn't resist smiling while reading this post - because I couldn't remember the last time I had a crystal clear memory about what happened while ordering in a restaurant. I mean, the food in this restaurant must have tasted really great for you to remember all these. Hahahaha.

So sad you weren't able to have Adobo on that place. But just ask Lola to cook Adobo. Hers is the best talaga!! I actually miss it. :(

Anyway, the contents of your blog have a lot of potential. According to some survey I have read, people tend to genuinely read blog sites that contain reviews. Who could resist not trying out for themselves what they read on food and tech reviews? Nice!

Will be adding this to my blog roll. :)

    Keep this updated!
